Under her direction, the venue has become known not just for great coffee and fresh food, but for its welcoming atmosphere, relaxed coastal culture and connection to the outdoors. Visitors arrive for a quick coffee and often end up staying for hours.
Kate is quick with cheeky grin and loves a chat about AFL – when she’s not deeply entrenched in giving you the best service, she’s off taking care of her amazing adventurous Daughters who all love to travel (and be wild)!

Together with the Boatshed staff and the wider Region X team, Kate helped create a business that reflects the values the family has built Region X upon — sustainability, adventure, authenticity and community connection.
Now, after years of growing both the café and the broader tourism business, the Watersons are entering a new chapter.
As part of that strategic shift, the Boat Shed café business is now being offered for sale.
Region X is increasingly focused on cementing its future as a leading adventure tourism brand centred around Mogo and the wider South Coast region. With growing momentum around nature-based tourism, immersive outdoor experiences and multi-day adventures, the company is directing its energy toward expanding its adventure offering and continuing to build the Region X brand into one of regional Australia’s standout tourism operators. This includes an infrastrucutre spend in the village of Mogo.
Importantly, this isn’t about walking away from something unsuccessful — quite the opposite.
The Boat Shed is thriving, and Kate’s work has positioned it as an incredible opportunity for an astute investor or operator looking to take over an already established and much-loved venue.
